As a young child I would worry that my mom would not wake the next morning. She was a lot older than
my friend's mom and had more health issues. At night while everyone else was sleeping, I would go to
her room and stare at her to make sure her tummy was rising and falling with each breath.
When I was 20 years old she had to have a quadruple bypass and she almost died during surgery. I
went to the chapel and asked God to please not take my mom from me just yet. He heard my prayers.
But, 7 years later my mom was going to die and nothing the doctor's could do would save her life. I
knew I could not be angry at God for he had given me another 7 years with her and now he must take
her home.
I stayed next to her bed all night after they removed the breathing tube. Just like when I was a
little girl, I sat watching her tummy rise and fall with each breath. Knowing that the breaths were
going to stop but not knowing when. As they got fewer and far in between, each one seemed like the
last one. That was a very long night for me. She was still alive the next day. I left the hospital
to go home and clean-up. I was on my way back when I got the call that my mom had passed away
peacefully.
I miss her every single day. She was a special mom because she was my adopted mom.
